Amazon Basin
The Amazon River basin is part of the Amazon Rainforest. It is the largest river basin in the world and takes up 6,100,000 square km (roughly 2,300,000 square miles). As well as being in Brazil, it is also in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, French Guiana, and Venezuela. It occupies two-thirds of the Brazilian country. The land along the river is subject to flooding and the rainfall ranges from 1,000 mm (39 inches) to 8,000 mm (315 inches) a year. 30% of the basin is covered in wetlands. The topography ranges from sea level to 6,500 meters (about 4 miles) above sea level. 10% of known life in the world is there including 40,000 plant species, 1,300 bird species, and several million species of insects and other invertebrates. The Amazon River basin serves as a large carbon absorber. It also sources 70-90 percent of Brazilian water and one-fifth of freshwater in the world. Temperatures in the river basin are around 26.7-30 degrees Celsius (80-86 degrees Fahrenheit). The Amazon River basin is a large river basin that supplies lots of resources for the world.
